The Writing Life (sort of)
I wrote my first article for Communications Quarterly during a technical writing class I took at Metropolitan State College of Denver. It was the class final project. Little did I realize that my article would be published! Since then I've written several articles, as well as numerous white papers, patent applications, and other technical documents. Not the dream of most English majors, but then I wasn't an English major. I'm just someone who loves radio and wants to tell everybody about it.
As time permits, I hope to add patent summaries, links to the patents themselves, and reprints of articles,
Product Reviews
I wrote several product reviews for Communications Quarterly and one for CQ. These reviews served the twin purpose of evaluating the product and providing insight to the unique technical aspects of the product reviewed.
Patents
I now hold six patents, most related to issues of antenna design and measurement methodologies. I will shortly be posting a brief summary of each patent, along with their complete text.
Modifications
I've published two modification articles. One was a synchronous detector modification for the Drake R-8 using a Motorola AM stereo chip to accomplish the synchronous detection. This method worked well as long as the signal was strong, but because of the design requirements for AM stereo, which were mutually exclusive to those needed for a synchronous detector, the modification was not ideal when the signal was weak.
The second modification I designed was a QSK keying system for the Drake TR-7. This modification works well and sounds great, but some of the parts are not easy to find.
